At present he lives in Tennessee and owns a coffee farm in Costa Rica. Before his success with Seals and Crofts, Seals played rhythm guitar for Buck Owens, and saxophone for The Monkees' second album. Seals won a state fiddle championship when he was 9 years old, and after high school he toured with The Champs (known for their 1958 hit 'Tequila').
Their hits included 'Diamond Girl', 'Hummingbird', 'Summer Breeze', and 'We May Never Pass This Way (Again)'. Jim Seals was half of the multi-platinum 1970s duo Seals and Crofts, with Dash Crofts.
